  3. compositions, full of visual puzzles and
  4. effects of movement, which he created with
  5. complex arrangements of hard-edged geometric
  6. shapes and subtle variations in colours. He
  7. was active in Paris from 1930, then in the
  8. south of France from 1960. He initially
  9. worked as a graphic artist, concentrating on
  10. black and white.
